CSA group bags: how the system works

Please read this carefully because it explains the rather different arrangements for bags which we intend to operate. We want to avoid misunderstandings so if there’s anything you’re not sure about after reading (and maybe re-reading) this message, please email or phone. We’ve never run a scheme like this before and so may not get things right first time!

Veg bag collection: Because we are now such a small scale outfit, we cannot be sure that we will have regular supplies of veg, so bags may be more irregular than once every 2 weeks. So what we shall do is email you several days before we harvest for the bags, letting you know when they will be ready - normally Friday, as before. But, as I noted above, if we don't hear from you by the day before harvest day confirming (a simple Yes will do) that you want a bag, there won't be one for you. This is different from before. We used to assume you'd want a bag unless you let us know you didn't. Now we will assume you don't want a bag unless you let us know that you do. Prices may vary too according to how much we have. We'll advise you in the emails what the price will be for the next bag. We may also have surpluses from time to time which will be available for you at extra cost if you want them. If email is a problem for you, you can ask Val to call you about future bags.

Payment: Bags will be available for all group members who have paid their £50 initial subscription. We ask especially that when collecting your bag, you pay for it there and then, either in cash (preferred) or by cheque. Val previously had to spend a great deal of time in chasing customers who accumulated large debts at our expense and does not want that to happen again. If you don't pay, there won't be another bag for you. Will the Borth y Gest group who share collection duties please arrange between yourselves for the collector to pay us for all the bags he or she collects.

Help: Thank you for your help during the summer. We hope you feel adequately recompensed for your efforts by the free fruit and veg you've received since. Everything is now well under control because Val and I put in about 2 full days of work each per week and Joan helps us for at least one full day. We'll contact you if we need further help.

Fruit: The summer raspberries are finished and now the autumn raspberries are looking like they will produce a bumper crop in the coming weeks. We will advise you by email when they are ready for you to come and pick your own. There may also be apples and pears available later on.
